Managing daily catch deliveries was once a time-consuming process for Geraldton Fishermen’s Co-Operative (GFC) and its members. Relying on text messages for price alerts and confirmations made it difficult to coordinate resources efficiently. The Beach Price app simplifies this workflow, creating a seamless, centralised communication hub for fishers and GFC admin.

The Brief

The existing process of sending and responding to daily price alerts via SMS was creating inefficiencies for both GFC and its members. GFC needed a more reliable and streamlined solution that would allow fishers to receive daily beach price updates, confirm fishing activity, and communicate essential trip information. The app also needed to support bait orders and provide a way to save frequently repeated trips. Ultimately, the goal was to reduce admin time and allow GFC to better allocate resources, driving greater value back to its members.

The Solution

We worked closely with the General Manager (Member Services) and the CEO of GFC, alongside the development manager from Lateral, to scope the project, prioritise core features, and ensure the solution addressed the needs of GFC’s members. My role involved developing user flows, creating and iterating on low-fidelity wireframes, and producing a clickable prototype to help guide discussions and validate the user experience before development began.

The core functionality was intentionally streamlined, allowing users to receive beach price alerts, schedule when they would be fishing, estimate their catch, and order bait for arrival back at port in just a few taps. We also included sections for price history, news and events, features designed to bring broader member communications into the app, reducing the reliance on SMS and email over time.

To reduce time spent in the app, we included the ability to save favourite trips and bait orders, making repeat use faster and more efficient. This centralised, simplified communication gives GFC clearer visibility over catch volumes and allows them to allocate staff and resources more effectively. With a clean, intuitive interface tailored to the needs of its user base, the Beach Price app brings clarity, speed, and ease to the daily fishing routine.
