Dynasty Exchange
AFL dynasty should be as dynamic and engaging as the sport itself. While existing dynasty platforms offered the core features, they often fell short on usability and excitement. Dynasty Exchange reimagines the experience with a refined interface, smoother navigation, and a design that brings the energy of AFL to life.

The Brief
Most AFL dynasty apps on the market felt clunky and uninspired, despite having many of the features players wanted. The brief was to design an experience that felt exciting and modern, with a clear focus on usability. Key goals included offering a range of draft options, allowing users to import their existing leagues from other platforms, and creating a UI that matched the excitement of AFL. With this being an MVP, we also needed to prioritise the most impactful features for launch, knowing that some functionality would need to be staged for future releases.
The Solution
Throughout the project, I worked closely with the founders of Dynasty Exchange, who represented the needs of the user base, and the development manager from Lateral, to ensure key features were prioritised and a product backlog was documented. Among expected features like trading and waivers, we included multiple draft options, giving players greater flexibility in how they build their teams. The app also allows users to manually select their teams if they had an existing league on another platform.
While we had initially planned a migration tool to import league data automatically, time and budget constraints meant this functionality had to be postponed. Other features scoped for future releases included a built-in chat function and a news feed to surface articles from external sources, both intended to deepen engagement and community within the app.
A modern UI, built using Material Design 3 for ease of implementation, replaces dull layouts with an interface that feels as fast-paced and competitive as the game itself.
