Coogee Beach SLSC
Coogee Beach Surf Life Saving Club plays a vital role in keeping the local community safe and confident in the surf. Known as The Family Club, Coogee SLSC is a welcoming place where people of all ages can volunteer, compete, or simply enjoy the beach. While the club’s values and impact were clear, the website no longer reflected the energy, warmth or professionalism of the organisation behind it.

The Brief
The existing website felt visually outdated and difficult to navigate, particularly on mobile where the hidden menu made finding information frustrating. The brief was to modernise the look and feel through updated typography and styling, while improving the usability of the site. Key priorities included making FAQs easier to access, streamlining enquiries through smarter forms, clearly explaining the multi-step membership process, and integrating club and beach operations calendars without adding manual admin overhead.
The Solution
I worked closely with the Coogee SLSC project team to gather requirements, prioritise features, and identify opportunities for future phases of work. My role included developing an updated site structure, creating wireframes and clickable prototypes, and facilitating regular check-ins to review design progress and timelines. I liaised closely with the development team to provide a clear design handover, detailed notes on functionality and integrations, and supported the build through QA testing.
The visual design was refreshed with cleaner layouts, modern typography and a more contemporary style. Navigation was reworked to make key sections visible and easier to access, particularly on mobile. For longer content-heavy pages, we introduced additional navigation layers, allowing users to quickly jump between sections. A new area for useful links and documents was added, directing users to external Surf Life Saving Australia resources or club downloads without cluttering core page content.
To support more direct communication and reduce the load on admin, we introduced a contextual contact pull-out within page banners. This surfaces the relevant department contact details in context, helping enquiries reach the right person rather than flowing through a general admin inbox. Filterable FAQs and conditional Jotforms further reduced unnecessary enquiries by guiding users to the correct information or contact from the outset.
Outlook calendar integrations allow both club and beach operations to update automatically on the website, removing the need for manual content updates. This quickly became one of the most visited sections of the site following launch. Bar and restaurant bookings continued to be managed through the Webba Booking plugin, ensuring the food and beverage manager could maintain existing workflows without needing to adopt a new system.
Future phases were also considered, including eCommerce for uniforms and an AI-powered chatbot using Jotform data to assist with member enquiries.
